This year the Harvard Hasty Pudding Theatricals Club chose a Scream Queen and a guy who makes a living trying to get people to scream with laughter.
Jamie Lee Curtis, who screamed plenty in "Halloween", "Halloween 2," "Halloween H20", "Horror Train", "Prom Night", "The Fog", and got quite a few laughs herself in "Trading Places", co-starring Dan Ackroyd and Eddie Murphy, and in "A Fish Named Wanda" with John Cleese, and in "True Lies" with "Arnold", was chosen Woman of the Year.
On stage, the Hasty Pudding tormentors got Jamie Lee to scream so loud she damaged the speaker system. But upstairs in a press conference, Ms. Curtis said she was just the daughter of a couple of movie stars (Janet Leigh of "Psycho" fame and Tony Curtis "Some Like It Hot") who only had a high school education and felt humbled at Harvard. Most everyone disagreed with her. It was difficult to see this beautiful woman who has proven herself so versatile on screen as someone who should have low self-esteem.
Billy ("Dahling, you look mahvelous!") Crystal copped the Man of the Year award. This "Saturday Night Live" superstar and the star of "When Harry Met Sally" and "City Slickers 1&2" cracked everybody up in Cambridge that night when he had to say something leading up to " you look mahvelous!" to a live, caged pig on stage. At his press conference this good and funny guy brought along his wife of almost 30 years (in June, I believe), Janice and his daughter, Lindsey.
